kimberly crest house & gardens

If you’re from out of town or are having a lot of out-of-town guests, I also think the limited hotel options might be an issue. However, the grounds are definitely gorgeous and unique, and for many brides that outweighs any potential negatives (and should!). The Kimberly-Shirk Association hosts a number of different events throughout the year at Kimberly Crest. They host regular guided tours of the house and grounds, as well as special events like Victorian tea parties and holiday celebrations. Built in 1897, the “castle” is a picturesque French chateau-style historical house museum.

Do you have a site fee for wedding receptions at your venue?

The house was built in 1897 and is now owned and operated by Kimberly-Shirk Association, a non-Profit organization. All proceeds from weddings at the venue go to the preservation of the house and garden. Kimberly Crest House and Gardens is an exquisite French château-style Victorian mansion located in Redlands, California (San Bernardino County in the Inland Empire). It’s a unique destination and not-so-hidden gem for visitors looking to explore its beautiful gardens, learn about its fascinating history, and capture stunning photos of the estate.

After purchasing the property, the Kimberly's had Italian gardens installed around the property. No, the Kimberly Crest House is one of those estates that is a vast, stunningly crafted structure where the visitor expects a lord or lady to saunter down the billion stairs in the front garden to see who is approaching. The three-story Victorian mansion was designed in the Châteauesque style by Oliver Perry Dennis and Lyman Farwell, a Los Angeles-based partnership.[5] The building contains over 7,000 square feet (650 m2) of floor space. A near replica, now known as The Magic Castle, was designed by the same architects and erected in Hollywood[6] in 1909.

What Do I get With The Package?

In 1905, John Alfred Kimberly, a co-founder of the Kimberly-Clark paper company, purchased the home to escape the Wisconsin winters, giving the family name to the property. When the Kimberly family purchased the property in 1905, Mrs Kimberly had the Italian gardens installed on the property. The overall property consists of the main residence (a large 7,000 square foot dwelling), a carriage house, the formal Italian gardens, and several acres of orange groves. Kimberly Crest is open to the public to walk and explore the grounds. For the comfort and peace of mind of all guests, pets are not allowed on site without advanced permission.

The property is a registered California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We offer special tours and ticket pricing for groups of all sizes and makeup, from school groups to seniors — Monday through Wednesday between 10 AM and 4 PM. Please fill out the form below to make reservations at least two weeks in advance. Groups with 30 or more guests will have a self lead tour with docents stationed in each room to answer questions. Kimberly Crest is located on Prospect Drive off Highland Avenue.

Kimberly Crest House and Gardens sits on over 6 acres and features a Victorian-style chateau and Italian Renaissance gardens.

Entry inside the house is available through small group tours with ticket purchase. Special events are also offered throughout the year to immerse guests in the history of the place and raise much-needed funds to preserve the landmark for all time. Kimberly Crest is the picture-perfect setting for photography that marks those special moments and milestones in your life. If you live in Los Angeles, this venue is definitely in the same vein as Greystone Mansion and is around the same price if you’re looking for an upgraded Saturday ceremony and reception for 125 people. If I’m comparing the two side-by-side, however, I would have to choose Greystone considering the location, grounds, and parking situation.

Please do not follow mapping services that direct you otherwise as they will mislead you. After entering the gate at Highland Avenue, you will find a parking lot straight ahead. Please park and proceed around the corner to the front wrought iron pedestrian gate of the estate.

One of the first pioneers of Redlands, Cornelia A. Hill, built the estate in 1897. I don’t know who she was, but she had to come with some serious cash to build such a marvelous place — so, she must have been important. So, not long ago, I had a bit of business to do and found myself with hours to meander through the town of Redlands. That always confused me, but then later, I understood her meaning. When she goes shopping, and there are plenty of examples, she will spend hours looking at this and peering at that. Redlands is a wonderful town to visit, but I have not spent much time there.

The lily ponds feature radiant Koi; vivid red, pink and yellow lilies against deep green majestic lotus blossoms; and papyrus. In 1998, KSA was made an honorary member of the Inland Koi Society who maintains the lily ponds at Kimberly Crest. The Italian terraced gardens were designed by G. Edwin Bergstrom, a prominent Los Angeles architect and a son-in-law of the Kimberlys. Bergstrom successfully interpreted Mrs. Kimberly's wishes for an Italian garden.

Young ladies can enjoy a magical day full of activities like dressing up in their favorite princess costumes, enjoying tea and snacks, making crafts, and taking photos. Personal use photography rentals are by appointment only, and a variety of hourly rates are offered. Kimberly Crest is the perfect location for engagement photos, family portraits, and more. Kimberly Crest offers several different packages to fit your photography needs. Mary Kimberly Shirk, John Alfred Kimberly’s daughter who had been widowed, was the last Kimberly to live in the home.

The sun was up, the wind was down, and it was a perfect day to explore a place I had never visited. As I wandered the estate's grounds, I was a bit nervous in case I was approached by the Royal Guard or a security officer. Yes, that family brought the world the products that make us all much easier to be around. Facial tissues, hygiene products, toilet paper, disposable diapers, baby wipes, and so much more that we need to take a moment to thank them. If not, perhaps the lady of the house would have been correct about the commoner and the odor — just saying. Then in 1905, John Alfred Kimberly of the Kimberly-Clark paper company purchased the property.

The fountain, “Venus Rising from the Sea”, became a gathering place for family photographs and captivated the Victorian spirit. Docent-guided House Tours are 45 minutes in duration and begin on the half-hour. Standard group size is 8 per tour but on occasion may include up to 12 guests. Given the setting and group format, children must be at least 9 years old to be admitted on the standard tour. For field trips and educational tours, please see our “Group or Bus Tour” section below.
